METHOD

How the data is collected

Every figure comes from an official register and shows the date it was read. If a source cannot be verified, it is not published.

THE STEPS

7 steps from source to page

Each source goes through these steps in order. A figure is published only if it passes every check.

1

Fetch

The data is downloaded from the official register through its API or feed.

2

Snapshot

A copy is saved. Old copies are kept, so every earlier version stays available.

3

Diff

The new copy is compared with the last one. If nothing changed, the process stops.

4

Propose

The changed data is extracted into a structured record with a confidence score.

5

Review

A separate reviewer checks the record. The reviewer did not write it.

6

Audit

Every statement in the record is checked against the source text. Any statement not found in the source is listed.

7

Gate

The record is checked against every publishing requirement in the table below.

Either

Published

All requirements met. The record is published with its source and the date it was read.

Or

Not published, sent to a person

Any record that fails a check, or cannot be fully checked, goes to a person for review.
